The Final Word From PayPal...

It's been a bit of a journey, but I spoke to a very nice person today at the Compliance Department from PayPal; basically, it's simple--no selling of raffle tickets on-line, period. It's a shame it took them nearly a month to arrive at this, but I guess this is better than Waiting For Godot, right?

So, we've removed the "Buy Now" button, and we're going to have to start to do this the old-fashioned way: when we have an event, we'll sell tickets, we'll get out the word, and ask each of you to try to see if you can get others interested as well--it's for a great cause--and a great organization.

Let's buy some tickets!!

New Date: May 1st!

We're continuing to have problems with Paypal regarding offering the raffle tickets online, so we're pushing back the date the raffle will be held: May 1st.

It's more of a procedural issue (we sent them the information they wanted via email, and then received an answer several days later with the response, "we don't open attachments, can you fax the letter?" We did, and now we're waiting for final approval. Since we completely understand PayPal's reluctance to approve non-profit status without proper documentation, there's no issue on our part, and we'll just move the date back a month to allow for more people to participate!

Another Way To Buy Your Raffle Tickets Online

Apologies! We are currently experiencing some technical difficulties with the big "Buy Now" button at the bottom of this page. But we want to assure you fine chaps that there is still a way to purchase your raffle tickets online.

Here is a guide to our work-around solution:

Log into your personal PayPal account
Click on the tab that says "Send Money"
For recipient, type in, "tweedsacramento@gmail.com"
Enter the amount of your purchase (raffle tickets are $5.00 each)
Go to the "personal" tab
Click on the "Gift" button, and then "Continue"
Review your cart. Please be sure to include your name and phone or email address in the "message" section at the bottom of your screen.
Click "Send Money" and it's off!

Within 24 hours, you will get an emailed confirmation of payment from us.

Thank you for your patience. We will be certain to let you know when our "Buy Now" button is up and running.

We are delighted to present a happy new twist to the spring tweed ride: a raffle to benefit the California Bicycle Coalition (CBC).

If you are unfamiliar with the CBC, then take a couple of minutes and look at their website. In our humble estimation, everyone who cycles on the road owes them a debt of gratitude for all the hard work they've done in the interest of making bicycling safer and more enjoyable. So, to help these chaps, we will be donating 100% of the proceeds from our raffle ticket sales to the CBC. Thank you, fine folks, and carry on with the good works!

In a thrilling development, the Bicycle Business has graciously donated two(!) very stylish commuter bicycles for our grand prizes. Without further ado, here they are:

But before you click the big "Buy Now" button on the bottom of your screen, please take a few moments to peruse these important details.

The fine print on buying your tickets:

1. All proceeds will be going to the California Bicycle Coalition. All proceeds, period. We love what the CBC does for California cyclists, and we want to give them all the support possible. We will make all records of raffle selling and donation amounts available to anyone who asks; we're honest folks, and we want you to rest easy about your raffle ticket purchase.

2. We've decided not a add a "service charge" to cover the PayPal fees (usually 2.9% of the total, plus .30 cents per transaction), but that also means less money will go into the hands of the CBC. How to outfox this? If possible, try to buy the tickets in person.

Rick will be carrying tickets with him wherever he goes, but if you're not in Midtown, send us an e-mail, and let's see what we can work out. Hopefully, over the next week, we can get several businesses on board to be an outlet for our raffle tickets, which should make the buying easier for everyone. (If you are a business who would like to participate, please let us know.)

3. Buying via PayPal? In the notes section of your cart, please be sure to leave your name and your phone number or email address so we can contact you if you are the lucky winner of one of these beautiful bikes.

4. For online orders, there will be a couple of ways to get the hard copies of your ticket stubs:

(a) Pick them up at the Bicycle Business. We will deliver personalized envelopes of ticket stubs to the Bicycle Business once a week (probably Mondays). To get yours, please see a nice person at the counter, who will ask to see a copy of your emailed receipt or check your photo ID. (b) Send us a stamped, self-addressed envelope (mail to: Rick Houston, c/o Sacramento Tweed, 1809 S Street, Suite 101-345, Sacramento, CA 95811), and we will send you your ticket stubs straight away.

The fine print about winning:

1. You need not be present at the March 28th tweed ride to win (though, clearly, winning is more fun when a hundred or so fellow tweed-clad riders can congratulate you, and give regards of admiration -- or envy).

2. Should you win: we at Sacramento Tweed encourage you to pick up your shiny new bicycle in person. If, however, you do not live locally and aren't able to make the journey to our lovely little town, the Bicycle Business has graciously offered their services. You will need to contact them directly to make your shipping arrangements.
